Spend the day taking a close look at historic gilded frames. We’ll cover the basics of choosing the correct style of frame for displaying of all types of artwork. We’ll identify materials used in fabrication and review best practices for proper maintenance. Led by conservator Susan Jackson of Harvard Art LLC and David Dempsey from the Smith College Art Museum, top the day off with a private tour given by CEO and Curator of the Museum of Russian Icons, Kent Russell.

An in depth look at historic gilded frames used on American and European paintings covering topics such as finding the correct style of frame for different historic periods, identifying the materials and methods used in the fabrication of frames, methods to care for gilded frames.
