Wanted: a new player in a new position on the NEMA team! Your assignment: build our base of almost 3,000 members and take charge of revenue-generation initiatives to strengthen the country’s largest regional museum association.

Reporting to the Executive Director in our Arlington, MA, office, the Manager of Membership & Development oversees outreach to prospective NEMA members from the museum community and engagement with the various categories of NEMA members including institutional, institutional affiliate, individual, academic, and business members. The Manager also builds NEMA’s development and revenue-generation capacity. Manager of Membership & Development

The Manager also builds NEMA’s development and revenue-generation capacity. Job Responsibilities/Membership:

  • Develop, refine, and manage list of prospective NEMA members to grow NEMA’s membership base (currently 3,000 institutions and individuals).
  • Plan and implement member cultivation and networking events
  • Plan and implement membership marketing program including mailings/emailings, social media, advertising, phone outreach, and personal visits
  • Manage and update NEMA membership database (eTapestry) used to process and produce annual memberships
  • Coordinate membership renewals, prospect and lapsed mailings, and fulfillment:
    • Process memberships in database
    • Process credit card and check payments
    • Generate membership cards
    • Coordinate online NEMA Marketplace
    • Produce membership reports as needed
    • Create and produce renewal mailings
    • Create mailing lists and reports as requested
    • Coordinate fulfillment and queries regarding NEMA membership benefits
    • Manage membership mailing list requests
    • Manage membership interns/volunteers, as needed
    • Interface with Membership Committee of NEMA board


Job Responsibilities/Development:

  • Develop and implement strategy for raising funds and growing NEMA’s revenue through:
    • grants
    • sponsorships for annual conference and other NEMA programs
    • annual appeal/philanthropy
    • in-kind donations
    • donor cultivation
    • advertising sales in NEMA publications
    • entrepreneurial collaborations
    • other activities that support NEMA’s financial goals
  • Implement development strategy/schedule through outreach, events, and marketing
  • Manage donor database
  • Provide donor/development reports as requested
  • Coordinate sponsorship program and Exhibit Hall at NEMA’s annual conference:
    • Conduct outreach to existing and prospective NEMA members for sponsorship, exhibit booth registration, and program book advertising.
    • Develop layout for Exhibit Hall and plan for related events
    • Process and track sponsorship/Exhibit Hall/advertising reservations
    • Act as liaison between NEMA and sponsors/exhibitors/advertisers
    • Manage evening events at the conference.

Qualifications:

Required:  Bachelor’s degree, a minimum of three year’s work experience, preferably in a museum environment, excellent fundraising, communication, and engagement skills. Master’s degree and prior experience in development and membership services is strongly desired, as is facility with databases, Excel, Word, and social media.
