College and university museums/galleries are in a unique position as part of a larger “parent” institution that provides their primary audience and, often, their funding. While the focus of the parent institution is educational, often there are more specific guidelines to its mission within which museum directors and curators are asked to develop their programming. Learn from four director/curators about their unique situations, the challenges they face and some of the solutions they’ve found.

1:30 pm Increasing Cultural Participation
Eric D’Alessandro, Program Coordinator, Massachusetts Cultural Council
Learn to design programming that is anchored by a customer-centered decisionmaking model that helps identify potential audience members’ level of inclination and potential barriers to participation in cultural programs and activities. Take away a planning framework to build target audiences based on where you are in their decision-making process, thus creating more effective programs/procedures for increasing cultural participation.
