About NEMA Discussion Lists

NEMA has created four Internet discussion lists: NEMA Collections; NEMA Interpretation and Public Programs; NEMA Administration and Facilities; and NEMA IMP (Independent Museum Professional) Issues.

In an era of numerous discussion groups, why should you join one or more of these lists? First, they will make it easier for you to network with your New England colleagues, no matter where your museum is located! You can be more confident about the information you'll receive, since you'll be corresponding with fellow NEMA members. Most importantly, these lists promote communication across museum disciplines.

The conversations will be open and unmoderated, but we will ask you to observe a few simple rules. We do not allow job postings (visit www.nemanet.org/nemajobs.htm to post or find a job) or the promotion of anyone's goods and services. This is a NEMA membership benefit, and there is no limit to the number of discussion groups you may join. This list is for NEMA members only (defined as Individual Members, Independent Museum Professional Members, or staff of Institutional or Corporate Members). If you know of other individuals who would like to join these lists but are not members of the association, please ask them to contact NEMA about becoming a member.

The discussion lists are hosted by Google Groups™. When you submit your email address you are not creating a Google account. You will not need to create a Google account to receive postings. You will, however, need to create one if you would like to search back messages or change your email preferences.

To create a Google Account, just visit the account-creation page (www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount), enter your current email address, and choose a password. Once you've finished registering, you'll receive a verification email. Click the link in that email to complete the verification process. Your Google Account username should be an email address from which you currently send and receive mail. Creating a Google Account does not automatically give you Gmail™. Note to Gmail users: if you already have Gmail you can access Google Groups using the same username and password.

*Please note that if you sign-up for more than one list you may at times receive duplicate e-mails that are sent to multiple lists.

*Since this is a member benefit NEMA will need to approve your e-mail address before you are officially allowed to join the list. When you first sign up, Google Groups may report that have not joined any list(s). Please wait at least 1 business day for NEMA to approve your e-mail address.
